Why does a supplier of industrial products build an e-learning environment? We answer that question in this article about an important project: the APEXperience. For our long-standing client Apex Dynamics, we created a custom e-learning environment where partners learn about (how to handle) their program. In this article, we tell you more about the background, the main challenges, and of course the end result.
Apex Dynamics has been working with Merkelijkheid for over a decade. Together we build more brand awareness, brand value, and of course sales for the brand of planetary gearboxes, racks and pinions, and lubrication systems. The company is now firmly established, and our approach of clear positioning, strong content (and distribution), and an excellent online environment and findability is paying off. Naturally, we continue to look for opportunities to further differentiate the brand.

But how did the idea to build an e-learning environment come about?
Good question. One of the pillars of Apex Dynamics’ ‘move forward’ positioning is their sponsorship of various initiatives and student teams. Director Thom van Oss has a warm heart for young engineers and likes to make the technical field more attractive for prospective students. That’s why Apex Dynamics sponsors – besides one-off initiatives and projects – for example Team Rembrandts and University Racing Eindhoven. Through sponsoring student teams, Apex Dynamics wants to contribute to a healthy influx of new technical students.
This also brought increasing attention to knowledge. Knowledge of drive technology and specifically the application of Apex Dynamics’ products: gearboxes, racks and pinions, and lubrication systems. Too often customers only realized afterwards that they had ordered the wrong gearbox or that another solution would have been more efficient.

Videos are an important part of the e-learning environment
“The APEXperience is a platform that provides insight into the gearboxes, racks and pinions from Apex Dynamics’ program and how they can be used in practice,” says director Thom van Oss. “On this platform, you can not only learn how our products work, but also in which situations you should best apply them and when it might be better to consider alternative solutions. Handy, because if you use a product that is suboptimal for the application, it is less economical, or worse, the product can be damaged or even break. After completing the APEXperience, you will know exactly – among other things – how to prevent that.
But of course, it goes beyond just our products. With the APEXperience, you also build your general knowledge.”
The APEXperience was of course a huge challenge. Not only the technical realization but especially the content and structure of the program were the main issues. The entire Apex Dynamics team worked on this together with Merkelijkheid. The content came from Apex Dynamics, Merkelijkheid then had to shape, build, and of course make it work in a pleasant, intuitive way.
We naturally carried through the brand identity of Apex Dynamics that we established together over the years into the e-learning environment. The many videos we produced about products, installation, selection, and maintenance also received a prominent role. A great example of reusing valuable content.

Each chapter and section revolves around answering questions. Questions that show you have mastered the material.

And the end result is impressive: a user-friendly environment where interested parties learn to handle the program and products of Apex Dynamics in just a few hours.
Partners from various disciplines and markets have now started going through the APEXperience. One motivated customer completed the entire program successfully in no time. Apex Dynamics director Thom van Oss immediately drove to Belgium to personally present the beautiful trophy.

By the way, the name APEXperience comes from Sales Manager Eric Megens. With his fresh perspective, he realized that the environment is a first, in-depth experience with Apex Dynamics and its products for many customers and partners. So the experience had to be central in the name. The APEXperience was born.
