Introducing: Design Intern Rikkert

I am Rikkert Honing, I am 22 years old and I come from the small village of Limmen. I am a student at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences and I am in my 4th year of the Communication and Multimedia Design (CMD) program.

At the end of October, after a pleasant introduction, I started my design internship at Merkelijkheid. A good friend of mine works at Merkelijkheid and often told me about his experiences. Now I got to experience this for myself. From the very beginning, I felt incredibly at home within the friendly and hardworking team! The well-prepared lunches and exciting foosball matches always keep the atmosphere lively.

Since I started my internship here, I have gained new energy and a clear perspective on where I want to head. That gives me a lot of satisfaction and peace of mind. I am learning a great deal and constantly tackling new challenges that I didn’t expect to handle. This has made me feel more confident and proud of my abilities, and it has become clear to me in what ways I want to use my skillset in the future. The role I am fulfilling here brings me a lot of joy. That is why I am definitely planning to make sure that after my studies I get as much satisfaction from my work as I do now.

I have already completed many design assignments and learned a lot, both for Merkelijkheid itself and for their clients. Of course, I work a lot with all Adobe programs but also with XD for websites and Spline for 3D animation. One of the things I am very proud of are the 3D renders, such as Merkelijkheid’s dynamic Christmas card. Being able to achieve that felt like a small victory! I am now also busy with the realization of a music recording studio in 3D, for a client.

Besides my internship, I still have time for other things like going to the gym, reading a book, or having a small drink with friends.
