What is anchor text?

Anchor text is the clickable text of your hyperlink. Often, the anchor text on a website is underlined or colored, as shown in our example.

Importance in link building

For link building, it is important that this text indicates something about the link and the page it leads to, as this helps Google better index the link and the page. Therefore, we prefer not to use anchor texts like “click here” because they don’t provide any valuable information about the page.

Example of effective anchor text

In our example, the anchor text is blue and underlined. Here, the word “positioneren” links to our Dutch page on the subject, so the anchor text indicates something about the content of the page
